Movies Based On Books!

Mean Girls is one of my favorite movies, and it's based off of the book "Queen Bees and Wanna Bees". It stars Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan, Tina Fey, and many other stars of Saturday Night Live. Mean Girls is about a new girl named Cady who goes to a public school for the first time. She meets the 'plastics', a group of girls who are mean and awful to each other, but they're the queens of the school. Cady begins to be friends with them in order to sabotage them and embarrass Regina, the 'queen bee' in front of everyone. The comedy in this is horror of what teenage girls do to each other. Tina Fey wrote this to show how awful girls are, but she did it in a hilarious way. 130

The Notebook is another great movie based on a book. The story of Allie and Noah is sweet and very sad. It's a total chick flick which is why my friends and I watch it all the time. Rachel McAdams is the star in this movie too and she is one of my favorite actresses. I love how the story goes back and forth between the present and the past. I'm a sucker when it comes to a good love story, and Noah and Allie are meant to be together, even after seven years apart and having other relationships. 89

My Sisters Keeper is one of the saddest books I've ever read, and the movie is the exact same way. Abigail Breslin is one of the best child actors that are in Hollywood, and she really gets into her roles. She really took on the part that had so much to it and rocked it. In My Sisters Keeper, Anna (Breslin) is trying to get medical emancipation from her parents who make her do whatever her sister, who is dying of cancer, needs. They make her do that because she was a test tube baby made to match her sister perfectly. This movie is sad, but I also love that her sister, Kate, finds love. 115

The Cat In The Hat has a fantastic cast, with Dakota Fanning, Mike Myers, and Spencer Breslin. It's the movie based on the famous book by Dr. Seuss. Mike Myers is this 6 foot tall talking cat that comes to the house of Sally and Conrad's house and gives them only one rule- not to open the crate in the middle of the room. Of course the kids open it, and when they do, pure fun pours out of the box and messes up their house. They need to find a way to fix their house before their mom gets home, but the cat is not helping one bit-he's actually making everything worse... in a funny irresistible way. 119

Of course you knew this was coming. It only takes one word.. TWILIGHT! The Twilight Saga is an addictive series of books and is turning out to be phenomenon of movies. Stephenie Meyer is a genius in the world of movies. Twilight is a thriller, a romance, and a fantasy. There are vampires, werewolves, love, all of which defy stereotypes that we have come to know. Edward and Bella are really brought alive and make a perfect on screen couple that is believable. Emmett and Alice are the siblings that everyone comes to love, Charlie is the awkward dad that adds humor, and Esme and Carlisle are the nurturing parents that support everything. This hit movie wouldn't be complete with a twist that I'm sure you know. Bella is in love with a vampire! Edward wants her blood, but resists, and comes to save her when James, the sadistic vampire tries to kill her. Love and grossness all in the same movie just might be why Twilight was a blockbuster hit. 171

NEW MOON MANIA!

The Twilight Saga's New Moon came out today and it was amazing! It was honestly the best movie that I have ever seen in my entire life-and I'm not exaggerating. New Moon is the sequel to Twilight and it's the movie where Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson leaves Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart. Jasper Cullen, who is Edwards 'brother' attempts to attack Bella after she gets a paper cut. Edward decides to leave Bella, convincing her that he doesn't love her anymore. Bella is seriously messed up when Edward leaves. Enter Jacob Black. Jacob is a local Indian that Bella has known since she was little, and is played by Taylor Lautner(a.k.a my future husband). Jacob seems to be the only person that can get Bella out of her depression, but the twist is that he loves her... and she doesn't feel the same way.

The thing about New Moon is that everyone is expecting it to be even better than Twilight. Thank God that everyone was right. This movie had a lot of expectations to live up to and surpass. For this movie, they got a new director who made a lot of changes for the better. This movie followed the sequence of the book more than Twilight did, and that made a huge difference. I felt like I was living in the book instead of just seeing pieces of it like in Twilight.

Jacob Black is my favorite character in New Moon. First of all, he never leaves Bella. He makes her a promise that he will never leave and never hurt her. That's really sweet and sincere and shows how much he loves her. Jacob is always there when Bella needs him (even if she is being difficult), just like a best friend should be. And of course I can't leave out the fact that he is very, very attractive. He plays a werewolf, whose temperatures run at 108 degrees, so they never get cold. Also when they phase (which means when they go from human form to werewolf), their clothes don't pop in and out of existence, so it's easier to not wear a shirt at all, which I'm sure is absolutely fine with all the other teenage girls who are watching. =)

I loved New Moon so much because it was a lot funnier and less cryptic than Twilight. It had jokes every few minutes and I was cracking up in the theater. Mike Newton, a guy who also likes Bella, made funny comments about Jacob after he got upset that just made the scene, and Jessica Stanley made funny remarks about leprosy(saying that her cousin had it) and she just rambled on about the stupidest things that made little sense which is, of course, the best part of her character. The music in New Moon was more upbeat and fun than Twilight, which was dark and eerie.

The thing about this movie that just about broke my heart was when Jacob was begging Bella to stay with him and she left anyways. Throughout the entire movie, Jacob and Bella are constantly getting closer to each other, and they have these cute moments where you can tell that they would be great together, but Bella is still completely in love with Edward, and can't let go. I think I got teary eyed at least four times when Jake was rejected.

A lot of people judge the Twilight Saga because it's so popular and they don't understand what it's about. If you haven't read the book, you don't know what you're missing out on because it's written very well, and the movie is honestly the best movie I've ever seen. JUST WATCH IT!

It's Everything Disney!

I am a movie fanatic. My house is filled with them. There are movies in my room, on my desk, in my family room, and in bins in my basement. If there is ever a few hours to spare in my house, the time is filled by watching a movie.

Whether I watch a comedy on my own or a Disney flick with my family, movies are a way for me to calm down and relax. There isn't just one type of movie that I like. I'm a fan of comedy, tragedy, true stories, fairy tales, horror (to an extent), romance, or any mix of genres.

To be honest, most of my favorites are Disney. I'm obsessed with Peter Pan and how its so childish but meaningful too. I love how the main ideas of it consists of magic and believing in something. When I was little, I was just like Peter and never wanted to grow up- I used to cry on my birthdays. I think I love Disney so much because I love the sweetness of the stories and how there is always a happy ending even when everything seems to be going down hill. I suppose that's also kind of naive, but I could never get over wanting a Prince Charming.

Another top Disney movie for me would have to be Aladdin. It's a classic in my house. The thing that draws me to Aladdin is the songs. 'A Whole New World' is on my ipod because it's so cute! If you listen to the lyrics, it really describes what the characters are feeling when they're with each other. The hilarious characters are another reason that Aladdin is one of the best movies ever. Robin Williams really brings spunk and humor to the Genie. Without all of the imitations, I wouldn't have laughed half as much.

There's no way I can leave out The Lion King. This used to be my absolute favorite movie and inspired my love for wild animals. Tamon and Pumbaa are the amazing dynamic duo with a catch phrase that has always stuck with me. "Hakuna Matata" means no worries, and they really got that across in a fun way. But the best part of this movie is Rafiki, the crazy monkey. I love when he says important things that nobody understands but is funny at the same time.

The Little Mermaid also has got to be mentioned. Who could talk about Disney and not bring up the mermaid story? So in this movie you've got a mermaid princess Ariel who is in love with a human prince, a forbidding father(who is also the king), the rule-following advisor Sebastian, the crazy Skuttle who overlooks everything, and of course Ursula the sea witch. I'm assuming you can guess what happened. Ariel is dying to be apart of the human world to be with Prince Eric, who is also looking for a wife. Ariel goes to the sea witch when she is denied by her father the chance to be with him. Ursula puts Ariel under a spell to appear human for three days, but she can only stay a human if she receives a kiss from her prince- the catch is that Ursula takes Ariel's voice! I'm not going to tell you what happens, but I'm sure you've seen this classic. And if you haven't-you don't know what you're missing.

There are way more Disney movies that I love, but these ones are some of the best.

What Is An Essay?

An essay is a series of paragraphs that tie together to talk about one specific topic. They usually consist of multiple paragraphs. There is a topic paragraph, a closing paragraph, and body paragraphs. In those paragraphs is a topic sentences that tells you what the paragraph is talking about specifically. The body of the paragraph contains concrete details (CD) and commentary (CM). There is usually three CD's per paragraph. By the end of the essay, the reader should know a multitude of information about your topic.
